Some Notes on Immunization.
-
Immunization helps to prevent infectious diseases,
some of which may be serious, and
children all over the world need to be immunized against
them.
- BCG protect your child against Tuberculosis (TB). It
is given at birth after which another
(booster) dose is given at 12 years.
- Hepatitis B is common in Asia, and infection may
lead to liver problem like cirrhosis and
cancer.
- DTP stands for Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis
(Whooping cough). These disease used
to be common and many children have died from them.
- Poliomyelitis causes paralysis of the muscles. The
vaccine can be given orally or by
injection.
- Hib or Haemophilus influenza type b, is a bacteria
that can cause serious illness in young
children, particularly meningitis. In Malaysia at
present, this is still an optional vaccine.
Different types of the vaccine have different schedules,
so your doctor will advise you
accordingly.
