How to measure for a bra
At Mothercare we understand how important it is to
be wearing a well fitted maternity bra, both during
and after your pregnancy. That's why we work directly
with midwives and pregnant women when designing new
bras, ensuring we provide you with complete comfort
and support.
When will I need a maternity bra?
A maternity bra helps support the delicate tissue of
your breasts. You'll start to need extra support as
early as eight to ten weeks into your pregnancy, when
your breasts will start to feel tender. Our maternity
bras are designed to help prevent the overstretching
of ligaments in the breasts.
Our personal fitting service
Every Mothercare store has staff who have been
specially trained to fit you professionally throughout
your pregnancy. By understanding your individual
needs, they can assess your changing shape and size -
ensuring you get perfectly fitting bras that give you
the support your body needs, at every stage of your
pregnancy. Your body is undergoing dramatic changes so
it's crucial to be re-measured every six to eight
weeks (or whenever your bra feels uncomfortable).
Remember: your bra size
can change up to 4 times during your pregnancy so our
expert bra-fitters are available in-store to measure
you throughout your pregnancy.
Support bras
Technically designed to include supportive fabric,
thicker straps, extra-soft elastic, broader sides and
back, and a deeper centre front. Mothercare recommends
you avoid underwired bras during pregnancy (and
nursing) as the wire may press into delicate breast
tissue causing pain and discomfort.
Nursing bras
Offering drop-cup feature, extra-soft elastic, easier
fastening, and wider sides, back and straps. Essential
for breast-feeding
Sleep bras
Lighter support, extra-soft elastic and seam-free
styling will provide maximum comfort and support at
night, both during and after your pregnancy.
How
to measure yourself for a bra
- Measure directly under your bust (position A on
the diagram)
- If you've measured in cm: round up or down to
the nearest bra size (see conversion chart).
- If you've measured in inches: add 4 inches to an
even number or five inches to an odd number (see
conversion chart).
How to measure your cup size
- Measure around the fullest part of your bust
(position B on the diagram)
- If you've measured in cm: the difference between
measurement A and measurement B determines your cup
size, (see cup-size chart).
- If you've measured in inches:
The difference between measurement B and the bra
size you determined by measurement A gives your cup
size (see cup-size chart).
